WATCH: Illinois man starts Wisconsin crime spree with stolen ambulance
A Chicago man is now in police custody after a Wisconsin crime spree that began with a stolen ambulance.
The Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office tells our sister station WISN that Michael Buckner, 23, was a hospital patient in Chicago. As he was being transferred to another facility, he escaped his restraints and somehow managed to get in the driver’s seat and take off.
He headed north. Eventually he crashed the ambulance near Port Washington, crashing into a semi and then flying into a ditch, after driving about 100 miles.
After the crash, a Good Samaritan stopped and gave Buckner a ride. Buckner stole his car, too.
Law enforcement tracked him down, and WISN is told that while in custody Buckner attacked three deputies. They were not seriously hurt.
