There have been questions regarding the use of the C*** word on DU

There are questions in which people are asking why it is

Not okay to imply that a contender is a c***--but it is okay to imply that an opponent is a racist.

It should go without saying that the C word is NOT Ok--Ever. I am surprised that people must be told of that.

Both were trying to be 'clever'. One is gone, one remains.

Neither can it be either defended or contradicted.

There is nothing more demeaning or hurtful for a woman
than to be called a C..t or a B..tch

The R word can apply to anyone. Its attribution can be
defended or contradicted.

Sometimes its attribution is correct and sometimes not,
but it can be contradicted.

I found the OP a little accusatory/baiting since I have not seen that argument made. I very much dislike it when people claim something that doesn't exist because it fits their own narrative. If more than one or two people have made that claim, then I will retract my words.

With all the mudslinging around here that's the best comparison you could come up with?

That was one of the comparisons on DU. I know it is hard to believe that people would equate the two. That is why I started this thread.

A person suggested that using the C word can be compared to calling someone racist.

My point, which I apparently have not made very well, based on the confused responses, is that the comparison is outrageous.

Because according to this statement in your OP

"Not okay to imply that a contender is a c***--but it is okay to imply that an opponent is a racist."

You really sound like you are implying that the two are equivocal.

on DU. A 08 cycle post literally used photos of lynchings to equate Hillary's campaign to the photographs. Then that thread about Bernie. Those two threads are similar, the one with the too cute for Jr High slur is not similar to either post.

"Hitler was a racist" - OK, objective material to support such a claim.
"Hitler was a c***" - NOT OK, snarl word, particularly inappropriate as it implies being female. It's connotation completely overrides any objective meaning.

He did not actually use the Word That Shall Never Be Uttered.

He made what he may have thought was a clever pun that fell flat on its face. It was a dumb thing to do but I doubt if anybody can cite a specific rule that was violated. Certainly not grounds for immediate expulsion.

But if we want to ban even wink wink nudge nudge references to horrible terrible words like that, we need to say so. And we need to specify which words will get us booted.

And especially we need to be prepared to defend ourselves against accusations that we are acting like another horrible word. Two words actually - the PC words.

I just don't think anybody should get the death penalty for something they didn't even know was a crime.

likewise, is inferring or implying worthy of banishment? this is not promoting hate. Should using the words muscle-brain get you banned as well.

i'm appalled at the political correctness here - certainly unlikely for me to contribute financially to this site again (like i've done for 14 years) - although never say never i guess.
