Afghanistan: US drone strike on funeral kills 34

By Kristoff Saunders on June 5, 2015

– The Afghan government says all victims were Taliban insurgents

KABUL, Afghanistan – At least 34 Taliban insurgents have been killed in Afghanistan’s southeastern Khost province in a U.S. drone attacked a funeral ceremony held for a slain Taliban commander Friday, Afghan authorities said.

According to Afghan officials, the incident happened at 1.30 p.m. (0900GMT) Friday in the Alishir district in Khost province near the border with Pakistan.

“The incident has taken place few kilometers from the border line with Pakistan. The majority of the insurgents killed in the airstrike had crossed the border to attend the funeral ceremony,” a border police officer who declined to be named told Anadolu Agency. “All the bodies were collected by security forces and all of them were Taliban militants. There are no civilian casualties.”

He said the ceremony was held for a Taliban commander who was killed by Afghan security forces the previous day.

The Taliban group’s self-proclaimed spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid confirmed the incident but said all the victims were civilians who had attended the funeral....

Well, if we can't trust an unnamed border police officer from our good friend and ally, who can we trust? Oh, and you terrorists? Please don't use this as some kind of excuse for your next round of beheadings. If you were civilized at all, you'd kill people the way the United States does: Sudden death rained down from the sky. So much better, say all of us.

7. Do you think they are going to increase beheadings, because of this drone strike?

Both are linked together imo. Same as when Bush and Cheney offered the Taliban "a carpet of gold or a carpet of bombs" and what did we get for it? 9/11.

i think if you don't kill the terrorists the beheadings will continue.

there are no drone strikes in England or France, yet the terrorists continue to blow people up.

9. I think that for every terrorist you kill, two more will pop up feeling justified in their violence.

I think you have to have some sort of dialog first, if you want to stop the violence on all sides. Granted, I don't think the terrorists want to listen, but unending drone strikes just creates more martyrs. SO it sends when there is nobody left alive?

SO would you be okay with us using a neutron bomb on a known terrorist area...sure maybe some innocents get killed, but it would wipe them all out at once. Would that stop the beheadings?

Somehow I think it would increase the violence.

I haven't seen that slow them down much. Your faith in the power of violence to drive out violence is impressive, though.

to hatch plans and initiate destruction elsewhere. Clearly and especially after Osama Bin Laden was found in Pakistan, Taliban has a been provided a safe haven to breed and grow the admin side of the operations. Taliban insurgents leave the country, they become a target.
