Sen. Bill Nelson asks for probe into Visa Program used by Disney

Florida Senator Bill Nelson has asked the Department of Homeland Security to investigate a visa program that Walt Disney World has used to replace its technology workers with foreign ones..

Nelson (D-Florida) wrote to the agency this week after a New York Times article on the H-1B visa program. It highlighted Walt Disney World, saying that laid-off technology workers there had to train their replacements who were hired by an outsourcing company based in India.

Nelson wrote that he is concerned about issues raised in the article.

"I plan on delving further into this issue in the Senate and request that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security also investigate potential misuses of the H-1B visa program. I want to know if there are abuses going on in the system."

too many companies, like Disney, hire contractors that they know will abuse the H1-B system and then try to claim that their hands are clean because it was the contractor not them.

Walmart are experts at this kind of shit too only they tend to abuse undocumented migrants with their scumbag contractors.

The basic idea is sound, giving foreign workers with desirable skill sets the ability to fill positions available in the US that may be suffering a lack of American talent, but the reality is that it is a means for corporations to often replace existing American employees with foreign ones at reduced compensation. Unless harsh penalties for doing this are enacted and enforced, the system will continue as corps will do anything to boost the bottom line.

part of feeling like you're actually in that particular country. The tai pan chefs...are from Japan. The girls and guys who run the rides for Norway, etc. are in costume and actually from that country. That makes sense. But for the Magic Kingdom? You will see lots of unemployment again in the Orlando area.
