The Women’s Media Center has released its fourth annual report on the status of women in the U.S. media. Unsurprisingly, the extensive compilation of studies found that women are very under-represented across all types of media, ranging from film to television, from print to digital media, with both news and entertainment still dominated by male voices and male perspectives.

Geneva Overholser is a member of the WMC Board of Directors:

“The media gender gap continues year after year to be quite lamentably strong. It’s a really large gap. Simply speaking, pretty generally, women are about a third in most of the media. This new report shows us who matters and what is important to media, and clearly right now it’s not women. Particularly disturbing is the absence of women of color.”
