Some strong quotes from her speech in MO today:
in the city to meet with students at a technical school.
That night word of the killings struck like a blow to the soul, she says. How do we make sense of such an evil act. An act of racist terrorism perpetrated in a house of God. How do grief anger and despair into purpose and action?
...Clinton wonders how it was possible for the families of victims of the Charleston massacre could say they forgave the suspect.
Their act of mercy was as stunning as his act of cruelty.
She quotes Archbishop Desmond Tutu: Forgiveness is the first step toward victory.
Americas long struggle with race is far from finished, she continues. I appreciate the actions begun yesterday... to remove the Confederate battle flag from the statehouse. Recognizing it as a symbol of our nations past that has no place in our nations present or our future. It shouldnt fly there. It shouldnt fly anywhere."

(849 posts)Her campaign people better get on ebay and buy up the 2008 election campaign buttons that had the flag on it then, there's questions on whether Bills 92 campaign sanctioned its use in the past compared to her vehement opposition now.

Can anyone imagine what it must be like to look up and see that rag that symbolizes hatred and division flying along side the American flag which symbolizes love and unity?
And we wonder why our society is so schizoid.
Take down that rag!

(71 posts)It's safe to condemn a flag, how about condemning the Transpacific Partnership, Hillary?
Why so much animosity about a flag anyway. I've never been attacked by one yet.

(1,589 posts)most americans will tell me that I am great because I went and fought 'terrorism' in Iraq.
went. Iraq. terrorism.
This is a label that removes the threat to the abstract. Something far removed from the average dumbshit americans life. It also means 'brown skinned people' to most americans.
I'll never forget the night of Sept 11, 2001 when a friend said "yeah I know it all happened in new york and stuff, but this doesnt affect me."
I used to ask people how their lives had actually changed since Sept 11. I never got a good answer, unless they had personally been involved in the wars.
Massacre. hate crime. Murder.
