On Friday, June 26, 2015, something historical happened — the Supreme Court legalized gay marriage in all 50 states.

“No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family,” Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote for the majority (a 5-4 decision).

Shortly after the news, President Obama delivered a statement from the White House Rose Garden. “Sometimes, there are days like this when that slow, steady effort is rewarded with justice that arrives like a thunderbolt,” he said about the Court ruling in favor of marriage equality.
