(67,782 posts)....and they've always had lights. I even remember seeing the rainbow sequence, but that doesn't take away from the significance of the image tonight.
But that hotel in the background is great (is it on the Canadian or US side?)!
Here's a picture from earlier this year when the Falls was frozen

(10,145 posts)I remember the lights on the Falls back in the 70s: it's a simple matter of shining the right colours in the right sequence.

(62,437 posts)it has been a great day, but there is still a long way to go for full equality for LGBT, women, immigrants, blacks etc.
But a major victory and worth celebrating.

I am not even gay, but I am loving this day! Is it okay with my LGBT brothers and sisters if I soak up a tiny bit of your happiness, and keep it for myself for awhile? I promise to do my best to give it back to you someday.

(1,573 posts)I live less than 10 miles from here. I have the pleasure of being acquainted with the mayor of the city (a Democrat, of course). He officiated at the first same-sex marriage in the state when it became legal here in New York; it was held at the brink of the Falls right after midnight. (I have also had the pleasure of meeting the couple who was joined, but only once.)
The building in the background with the colored lights is the Seneca Niagara Casino. Our Native brethren obviously were celebrating with the rest of us enlightened folk.
It's a beautiful thing.
