Ted Cruz: "five unelected judges..."

https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/articleiii

"Article III
Section 1.

The judicial power of the United States, shall be vested in one Supreme Court, and in such inferior courts as the Congress may from time to time ordain and establish. The judges, both of the supreme and inferior courts, shall hold their offices during good behaviour, and shall, at stated times, receive for their services, a compensation, which shall not be diminished during their continuance in office."

So, Senator Cruz, aren't you a strict Constitutionalist?

Considering the obnoxious "law and order" ads for some state judges that we have now, it would be a nightmare.......here in
Texas we have judges that aren't even lawyers.

Other Repug. candidates are using the same phrases.
One buzzword is "unelected judges"

Jindal said, yesterday...."we need to get rid of the Court".

Rick Santorum: Today, 5 unelected judges redefined the foundational unit of society. Now it is the people's turn to speak.

Mike Huckabee: "This flawed, failed decision is an out-of-control act of unconstitutional judicial tyranny"
plus this gem: I will not acquiesce to an imperial court any more than our Founders acquiesced to an imperial British monarch,"

"Activist court" is another buzzword..Fiorna used that, but who listens to her?

There is a push for Constitutional Amendment (s).

appointed GWB president (Bush v. Gore), or decided corporations were people (Citizens United), or that women couldn't sue Walmart for discrimination in a class action (Walmart v. Dukes), or that corporations have religious rights (Hobby Lobby). Funny how they are complaining about those "unelected judges" now that they didn't get a 5-4 decision in their favor.

And I don't believe he has ever had a good idea and this is one of his worst. The Supreme Court can be politicized enough without having the justices running blatantly partisan campaigns.

Yes they are "unelected" - and for good reason. The SCOTUS is tasked with upholding the Constitution and interpreting the law. Appointment - with Senate approval - allows them to carry out this important task FREE FROM POLITICAL PRESSURE. The founders, in their wisdom, knew that this element of government should not be subject to the whims and whistles of politicians and the changing winds of national politics. The law means what Supreme Court says it means.
