Mr law and order
The suit says the water district sent cease-and-desist letters to Selleck after its investigator spotted the truck at the hydrant eight times the week of Sept. 29, 2013.
But the truck showed up again in December of that year, and was tracked as it proceeded to Selleck's property, according to the suit.
Then, on four straight days just last March, the same truck again drained tankloads of water from the construction site and delivered it to the Selleck ranch, the suit says.
The suit seeks an order forcing Selleck to stop using the district's water, plus reimbursement for the $21,685.55 it paid the investigator, with damages and other costs.

(38,958 posts)I would think that this would be a simply case of theft and would include criminal prosecution, not simply a cease and desist coupled with a fine and damages.
gratuitous
(82,849 posts)The report tonight on the NBC News said there wasn't a criminal case contemplated against Selleck. It seems to me as well that when you take something without paying for it, it's theft. Let me guess, though: Selleck will blame it all on the help.
Sherman A1
(38,958 posts)Even with attorney fees, court costs and a significant fine, it will total up to chicken feed for him. Just a cost of keeping the lawn green or the pool filled or whatever it was used to do.

(103,856 posts)Avocados are a TROPICAL fruit.. You can get away with it when water is plentiful and you have deep pockets (or wells)..but a drought always comes along, and the trees just have to go..
For too many years, the sunshine and long growing season has led too many farmers to geow things here that should never have been taken on..
Celebrities put here get away with a lot, but stealing water is theft..

(4,892 posts)The rich get away with it, the poor go to prison.
Yes, there are some sensational cases were the rich are held accountable
but far too few. "let them eat cake" comes to mind.
I really think if things go on like this there will be a revolution.
The spark will happen.

(38,958 posts)and it is unfortunate that it is so. I hope at the very least if he loses this case the fine is very, very steep.

(2,015 posts)I've tried to hate Kelsey Grammer but come on, Frasier is a great show and I still like Magnum PI and Blue Bloods.
I have somehow justified never watching anything with Patricia Heaton in it again.

I liked watching Frasier from time to time.
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)You have to admit he was great in Frasier. Helped, of course, by a great supporting cast. I also loved Niles, epecially in what some critics called the funniest 7 minutes on television...the Valentine's Day episode when Niles has prepared a gourmet dinner in Frasier's apartment and is waiting for his date to arrive...

(5,178 posts)There are so few I like anyway, but invariably I wind up finding the ones I do like are giant douches.
Grew up on Eastwood and Wayne. Freaking Magnum, Dukes of Hazard, Cosby Show and Frasier were staples.
Used to laugh at Dennis Miller and Victoria Jackson.
So glad I haven't had cable TV in a decade. From what little I see, I can only imagine the depths of the ugliness behind many of the cheery facades.

(10,479 posts)Tom Selleck on it. I used to tell my lady friends that "last night I slept with Tom Selleck". But when I learned he was a Republican I never wore that night shirt again. I must have been really stupid. Besides that mustache he has should be gray. He will never be Magnum again.

(143 posts)The past 30 or so years I've heard that I look like Selleck a ton of times. My usual reply is that I'm his younger and much poorer and less hairy brother. I never knew of his political leanings and was actually kinda happy to look like him, until now. I liked the roles he played on both small and big screens. What a scumbag, I'm glad that my graying hair and mustache have stopped those comparisons now.

(143 posts)I'm just here to use the info gathered by this site to counter all the RW BS that is thrown at me from my RW friends. Then when I quote some of the facts that I gather from DU that are counter to their beliefs I get a Big Ass Grin on my mug and let them stew on those facts. It's hard, at times, to let them spew those points and not react with rage, but sometimes friendship and relationships transcends their stupidity!
