Conservatives are up in arms over comments by Fox News host Shepard Smith, who called out Christian hypocrisy during the broadcast of Kentucky clerk Kim Davis release from jail Tuesday.
Davis was jailed last week after a judge held her in contempt of court for refusing to issue marriage licenses as Rowan County clerk in compliance with the Supreme Courts decision legalizing same-sex marriage in all U.S. states. She was released Tuesday, and during the live broadcast featuring prayer and GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee, Smith broke in with commentary.
They set this up as a religious play again, he said. This is the same crowd that says, We dont want Sharia law, dont let them tell us what to do, keep their religion out of our lives and out of our government, Smith said, according to Mediaite.
He added that the Supreme Court has ruled that you cant let one group of people do something that another group isnt allowed to do. This is not unprecedented. They did it when they said black and white people couldnt marry, he said, concluding that haters are gonna hate.

(10,345 posts)I know that the government tried forbidding interracial marriage for the longest time, but did they do it using religion as it's reasoning?
can anyone elaborate?

(15,730 posts)the segregation. That the blacks were not human? the children of Satan? something along those lines. I am sure someone will come along with better memory than me. Come to think of it, it might be that they believed that blacks came from monkeys and whites from God.

(95,337 posts)I figured that much out about people's hatred towards homosexuality. The concept of what men could do to each other kinda grosses people out so they use the bible to wrap their heads around it. Of course straight couples do that too but you know nevermind that. It really is about the sex and people's obsession about it.
I figured what goes on in the bedroom is NONE OF MY DAMN BUSINESS!! It's all about love. When two people love each other and want a lifetime commitment that is the most amazing thing and who are we to deny them their rights?

(15,882 posts)"...moral or social equality between the different races...does not in fact exist, and never can. The God of nature made it otherwise, and no human law can produce it, and no human tribunal can enforce it. There are gradations and classes throughout the universe. From the tallest archangel in Heaven, down to the meanest reptile on earth, moral and social inequalities exist, and must continue to exist throughout all eternity." 5

I never watch Fox anything, but comments about and from him indicate that he has principles.

(18,837 posts)I agree with you, he's getting a Fox paycheck, he's got tenure, why run the risk of tanking on MSNBC or elsewhere? I have to say that since he went ballistic in the wake of Katrina, he's been pretty consistent. He is not a run-of-the-mill Fox talking head.

(3,790 posts)I'm not shocked that the anti same sex marriage people are also against interracial marriage as well.

(56,829 posts)and, their conclusion was that Kim Davis was basically screwed and had no legs to stand on. Given that Fox usually prescreens their analysts, they were most likely two conservative legal scholars, and a moderate playing the role of the liberal. If you've lost that crowd, you know it's bad.
Wish I had the link, but I'm sure it was posted here on DU.
