A Quantico councilwoman agreed last week to take down the Confederate flag she posted over a window in front of her apartment after several complaints were lodged with the town and residents turned out to complain at a council meeting.
It never occurred to me that it would offend people, said Councilwoman Earlene Clinton this week. She is serving her second term on the council. I thought people would come to ask me about it. That is what neighbors should do ...
Whether you think its a freedom or not, it is so inconsiderate. To black people, to me, its offensive. To say Im just doing it because is ludicrous. That excuse doesnt hold water. Im concerned that someone who wants to represent this town would have the audacity to sit up here and not understand how offensive it would be to the vast majority of people, Brown said during the meeting.
You brought a national issue that this town has no business discussing and did not impact us and you brought it to smack us in the face, Brown said. You appear to have a problem understanding what you say and what you do impacts a neighbor ...
