From staff reports
Omaha firefighters rescued at least two dogs Thursday afternoon after a fire broke out at a home near Karen Park.
Emergency radio dispatchers first reported the fire at 4:57 p.m., at 6225 Buckingham Ave.
Anne Johnson, who lived at the home, was sleeping inside when a neighbor pounded on the door and woke her up. Johnson was uninjured.

Another neighbor, Buddy Miller, also threw a bicycle into a back door to break it and provide an escape route for Johnson's dogs. He cut his hand in his attempt to rescue the dogs. It's not clear how many dogs Johnson owned.
Firefighters later gave two dogs oxygen. Both were seen wagging their tails.
The fire destroyed the garage and parts of the roof. A neighboring house received siding damage. Firefighters did not give an estimated damage cost.
