Lawmakers file 'Tennessee Natural Marriage Defense Act'

Tennessee lawmakers promised some sort of legislative response after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled same-sex marriage legal for every state in the country.

On Thursday two state Republican lawmakers unveiled their answer: a bill that they believe voids the Supreme Court decision and continues to define marriage under Tennessee law as a union between a man and a woman.

"Natural marriage between one (1) man and one (1) woman as recognized by the people of Tennessee remains the law in Tennessee, regardless of any court decision to the contrary," the bill states.

"Any court decision purporting to strike down natural marriage, including (a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision), is unauthoritative, void, and of no effect."

Not sure who is at fault the voters or the politicians they voted for doing what they said they would do?

Sure it is pointless and the Feds will slap it down but the voters will just send them back to office with a few more to join them so this will not end any time soon.

Haters gotta hate

But, then again, our Democratic bench isn't very deep. With very few exceptions, you can't tell the difference between our Dems and Republicans.

Maybe if there was a clear choice, more people would vote for Dems. It hasn't been tried on the state level, but it has worked in many local elections.

Unfortunately, he couldn't win in East Tennessee. To answer Yabadabanodinono uppost; the people are the problem. Most people I know here (the ones that vote anyway) make all their decisions based on the teachings of Rambo Jesus.

I was ripping-off a Horsey cartoon. I tried to post a link but don't know how on my phone. Google images for Rambo Jesus and you'll find the toon with an evangelist and his preferred rendition of Jesus. BTW, I was amazed at all the other images that displayed from that search.

Our politicians (and a lot of our populace) give us much to be embarassed about.

Off on an embarassing tangent - the rednecks around here have been sporting rebel flags on their pickups. Whenever I see one it reminds me how utterly alone I seem to be here.

They are not rednecks though. They are racist. Fortunately, I don't fun into many of them in my part of Tennessee. Further south, yes. East Tn? Yes.

Nothing wrong with a good, hardworking redneck, either. I realize our definitions may be different, but a racist is a racist is a racist in my book.

Nice to meet you, and you are NOT alone.

I'm always tempted to ask the drivers of said trucks whether the taillights are about to start shooting at each other. Or maybe remind them that "A truck divided cannot go!"

But I refrain.
