I am not so sure i want that to be a crime

(269,063 posts)he said Roof was talking about planning a race war. In that interview he even said that he hid the gun because he was worried Roof was going to use it. If he was that sure shouldn't he have informed the authorities or at least tell him to leave his place?

(24,578 posts)but I think in that interview he said Roof was drunk, and he gave the gun back when he sobered up. I don't know if that would be a defense for not reporting it or not. I have certainly heard drunks say things I would not hold them to when sober.

(269,063 posts)but I remember him saying he put the gun back where Roof put it because he didn't want to be caught with an illegal gun.
Maybe we can find video or a transcript

(24,578 posts)In an interview in June, Meek said Roof had complained about blacks when he was drunk and had said "blacks were taking over the world" and that "someone needed to do something about it for the white race." Meek also knew Roof had bought a gun and said that he had hidden the gun from Roof during his drunken rant until he had sobered up, the Associated Press reported.

(24,578 posts)The early reports I saw were that the exact charges weren't known. Thanks for the clarification, Blue.
In a similar situation...WAPO has an article up on the 20th anniversary of their publication of the Unabomber manifesto. Reading the manifesto led Ted Kaczynskis brother to suspect him and eventually report him to the FBI. I thought about how difficult that must have been for the brother, but obviously he did the right thing to stop him from further killings.

(19,497 posts)I expect there will be legal repercussions. This seems very much akin to the person charged with not informing on the Boston bombers.

(2,061 posts)This means that it must have been OK in Soviet Russia and Germany to inform on parents who who committed crimes like being born Jewish or having feelings of an almost human nature, this will not do.
Nice to see they were ahead of the times.
