Apparently, it's a result of development, deer losing habitat, and no population control. mnhtnbb Sep 2015 #26

wondering if they were going to win a prize!

I've been photographing deer in and around our yard for several years. We get a lot of them!
Half an hour ago there were FIVE of them in our front yard chowing down on azaleas!

See?

Caught three in this quick photo through the window...and then when they scattered another shot of them
up the hill from the house. Do you suppose they're expecting residuals?

I want to come visit. What a beautiful yard you have. And the deer compliment it nicely.

Love the summer camouflage photo...it took me awhile to see the second deer.

Although we are right in town, you'd think we were out in the woods.

The deer have actually become quite a problem. When we first moved here 15 years ago, we'd see
one or two occasionally. I walk my rescue dog, Snowy, every morning, and it's now routine for us
to see deer almost every morning. We've seen as many as 13 at a time. But it's still somewhat
rare to see them during the day. The Summer Camouflage photo was taken around noon
one day when I was returning from taking Snowy for her mid-day walk.

You report that it changed to a few sightings 15 years ago and now routine. I wonder what changed.

In the midwest you learn that when you see a deer fly across the road it's time to stop - because there will be at least one if not more following it ...

Her name was Shady (as in the shady lady). A border collie who was beyond smart. We had an invisible fence around our driveway so Shady would hang out in front of our house. One day the UPS driver delivered a package and then gave Shady a treat. Next day, I am sitting at my computer and I hear someone yelling for help out front. The FedEx guy had left a package at the front door and Shady had planted herself between him and his truck making it very clear to him that he was not leaving until she got a treat. I explained to him that if he had a problem with that he needed to take it up with the UPS driver since he trained her that way. After that he understood that Shady insisted there was a price to leave packages at our house and he came prepared.

Shady passed away three weeks ago. She had been with us for 14 years and I still miss her every day.

She surely had a lot of personality, which was so evident in your photo.
Our fur babies become so much a part of our lives that they do indeed leave a hole
in our hearts when they leave us.

Grieve not,
nor speak of me with tears,
but laugh and talk of me
as if I were beside you...
I loved you so --
'twas Heaven here with you.
