Why Republicans are scared of everything and everyone right now

Why Republicans are scared of everything and everyone right now

By Daniel W. Drezner at the Washington Post

"SNIP.............

In the wake of House Speaker John A. Boehner’s announced resignation from Congress, there’s been a lot of chatter about how the GOP House caucus has changed since the Ohio Republican was first elected. And as FiveThirtyEight’s Nate Silver and The Washington Post’s own Christopher Ingraham demonstrate quite clearly with charts, the data is pretty incontrovertible. As Silver notes, “The most conservative Republicans in the House 25 or 30 years ago would be among the most liberal members now.”

Indeed, the current GOP is the most conservative iteration of the party in the past century.

None of this should be a surprise to regular readers of Spoiler Alerts or The Post. But it’s worth noting that, in many ways, the GOP has moved further to the right at the same time that a lot of other forces are pushing the country and the world in the opposite direction. Which, if you’re a Republican, sounds pretty scary.

.............

But the problem is not just limited to the United States. The GOP looks increasingly out of step compared with other conservative parties in the rest of the world. As Jonathan Chait noted recently, on issues such as climate change, the Republican party does not resemble other conservative parties:

in Aldous Huxley's dystopian vision, humans are genetically engineered into Alphas, Beats, Gammas and Deltas. It's like a caste system, with each having assigned tasks ranging from administration (Alphas) to menial work (Deltas). Industrialism is worshiped to the point where they cut the tops of all the crosses, turning them into T's to honor "Our Ford" (of Model T fame).

of people not exactly like themselves. American Republicanism is now a genuine mental disorder. Conservative parties in other democracies are not buybull-banging, science-denying Ayn Rand zombies. They may be wrong, but they are not detached from reality. American reichwingers are. Profoundly.

The only tangible things in their world are unbridled greed and insane religulous superstition.

Conservatives are scared of the changing world for three primary reasons:
1. Fox News was able to convince them that they were being lied to. They were scared off this changing world in the mid-90's as Fox News launched - the Cold War, the staple of their entire life, had ended just a few years before. They were so comforted that anything Fox News told them had to be true. They now we're susceptible to any lie their trusted friend told them. Talk radio was still powerful at the time so the battlefield was prepped. And in HOT CHICKS (always works) and splashy graphics and the repetition of words washes away reality. Fox News is basically a strip club.

2. Old people get scared and that fear is why they are a standard target of scams.

3. Due to Fox News's dominance in the market (due to the lack of the Fairness Doctrine) all the TV media follows Fox down rabbit holes. To many Americans there is no outside world other than DANGER! and socialism failures.

the #GOP has painted itself into a corner and it can't escape the wrath of the American people....2016 might be a much rougher year than they originally believed---All 435 Seats Are Up! And of the 34 Senate Seats up...24 R's and 10 Dems.....A few of which I'd like to see "benched".
