(11,076 posts)...I never have had a gun, didn't allow my son to have guns though when he was very young he and his friends had a Lego gun factory from time to time dispite my objections. He's 30 now. I still have never had a gun. My son and his friends have guns, college educations and go to CCclasses and shoot at ranges for relaxation or whatever they would call it.
My point. In the end moms only have only so much control of their sons. IMO carrying a gun and gunning down innocent people are two wildly different things. She carried a gun. Did she shoot anyone? Blamers gotta blame!
Weird that it's the males that do this. Interesting that they shoot up schools for the most part. Telling that they are usually loners. All of these signs yet we have no road, no hand reaching out to help these young people who are so hopelessly lost. There is an answer to the problem. We just have to care enough to look. These acts are committed in largely middle class areas. The 1percent and politicians have no reason to solve the problem. In fact they get rich off of it. Somehow they are isolated from the carnage.

(12,704 posts)she knew damn well her son had psychological issues so she should have had among other things had a more responsible attitude towards lethal weapons.

(12,151 posts)This is the cultural issue we're dealing with. It's not that people just want to own firearms.
It's this religion-like ideology about being prepare to kill at all times and fetishizing firearms as some kind of holy talisman of personal power.
Now it's being fed to children by parents. And we're all reaping the results.

EXCLUSIVE: Mom of Oregon mass killer stockpiled firearms out of fear of stricter gun laws, took son to shooting range
The mother of the Oregon mass murderer stockpiled firearms because she feared stricter gun laws and shopped around for a shooting range that would let her and her son fire away without supervision, the Daily News has learned.
Laurel Harper, a nurse who shared an apartment with her son Chris Harper Mercer, spoke openly about her love of guns, said the mother of one of her patients.
"She said she had multiple guns and believed wholeheartedly in the Second Amendment and wanted to get all the guns she could before someone outlawed them," Shelly Steele, who hired Harper to provide care for her sickly teenage son, told The News in an exclusive interview Saturday.
snip...
"She told my husband she just purchased some new guns a few weeks ago and took him shooting. I thought the whole situation was very strange. If you know your son has mental health issues, do you encourage a fascination with guns?"
Ten people are dead because Laurel Harper's gun love is/was far more powerful than her common sense.
