Please think good thoughts for this little kitten I found this morning

As you can see his left eye is slightly closed...it was completely closed when I got home from work...it's URI and I cleaned it and put topical antibiotics on it...he is also on oral antibiotics. Very sweet, although he doesn't look that way in this photo. Going out tomorrow to try and catch one of the siblings and the mom...sadly, there were 3 kittens and I had to bury the third this morning...Mom had them down in some underground tunnels and brought them up to eat...after I left some traps I came back and the dead one was by the trap...very bad URI it seemed did it in...I don't think it came up on its own...I think Mom carried it up to show me that she needed help. Poor little thing had a tough and short life, so I hope this guys does ok. The good thing is he's eating well and everything seems to be working ok on him.

5. Poor little guy-thank you for caring for him!

I know you feel bad about kitten 3 but you're helping this one...you're a good person.

The 2 cats I'm sandwiched between, now 10 years old, we're found at 4 days old, one injured, the other covered in fleas and both abandoned by their cat mom, so I know the hard work you have ahead.

14. I have zero luck fostering

I'm a walking foster failure. I had, at one point, 6 rescued cats and 5 giant rescue pups. I get attached to them. I was lucky enough to be able to bring my kittens to work everyday so I could bottle feed, clean and make them "go" and the people I worked with fell in love with them and wanted to adopt them. When you get up every few hours to bottle feed the little tykes you get super-attached as I am sure you're aware. They are my fur kids, pure and simple, plus I knew they'd have the best home with me.

I'm currently down to 2 dogs and 3 cats (one of the dogs is lying across my legs so you can imagine how comfy I am right now...NOT). Perfect amount of furry insanity

15. I am, too...

I've found homes for some, but I think I've kept more than I've given...12 of my 13 were little kittens when I found them, the 13th is 8 years old, recently abandoned.

For caring for these little ones. We had a longtime family member that we adopted when he walked in the open patio door one night as a kitten and loved him for almost a decade before he recently passed. Tough to lose him but people need to be much more loving towards animals.

39. My daughter found 4 kittens whose mother had been run

over by a car the previous night. She took the kittens and raised them herself by small baby bottles until they were no longer kittens. They became 4 of the prettiest cats I have ever seen. Found families almost overnight for 3 of them. She kept one and my grandchildren named him Ecuador. One of the girls had been learning about South America and other countries.

44. I Have Two Rescues

The first is now 5 1/2 years old and he looked just like your little one when I found him wandering around a busy parking lot. He was about twelve weeks when I rescued him. I named him Shadow because he followed me everywhere I went.

I rescued the second one about six weeks ago. I was out walking when he ran out of the brush along side a bridge that crosses a stream. He was very vocal and he jumped into my arms when I bent down to pet him. He started purring immediately. I carried him home and he had a voracious appetite for about three days. I had him checked by my Vet who said he was about 16 weeks old. He is now almost ready for neutering. My wife named him Willow because of where we found him. He is a grey shorthair.

I tried posting pictures, but DU is not user friendly when it comes to photos.

I used to maintain a colony on S. Austin, trapping and medicating. The colony stabilized with the old farts dying out. Had to bury one old guy near Bouldin Creek.

51. He's got a pretty good chance if his appetite is good

What kills a kitten (or cat) with URI is that a cat won't eat anything it can't smell. Kittens are especially vulnerable because if they can't smell Mom and their special nipple, they'll go off their feed and that kills a rapidly growing kitten very quickly.

If he stops eating, it will be because he can't smell anything. If the really cheap, stinky tuna cat food won't tempt him, then syringe feeding is in order. He won't thank you for it but it can pull him through the worst of the illness. You'll know he's better the first time he actively sucks on the end of the syringe.

55. Bless you for what you are doing for this little family. I hope the mama cat

and her kitten will go into your trap. Life is so hard for these poor little souls that people so casually toss aside. People think that cats can fend for themselves and many don't have second thoughts about abandoning them to face life on-their-own after living indoors with humans. Thank you for caring about these kittens and their mother and for seeing that all lives matter.
