25+ years of Limbaugh, and Fox News, has now led to the demise of the GOP.

They are the captives of the FReepers, Hannity, and many more. Now they can't even elect a Speaker. I am a lifelong Dem, and respected the GOP even when they didn't agree with me (see Gerald Ford, Dwight Eisenhower, and all those who were once for civil rights).

The GOP has gone insane, and it was long ago. Today confirms it. Even Faux News can't rescue this one, except their dwindling True Believers.

The people in charge have managed to keep both options running for a long, long time and for good reason -- they needed to keep us divided, while they simply played on both sides.

If they're letting one side collapse, it only means they don't think they're going to need it anymore. That's an endgame move, because as soon as there's only one party left and people don't get what they vote for, well...that's the final proof to everyone that democracy is and was a sham. So they can't let this happen, or they already know any response won't matter.

I wouldn't be cheering this, even though my first instinct is to consider it a good thing. That fact alone makes me cautious.

The media acts like this is horrible for GOP. Ha. They may just get their tea party house majority leader and that is frightening for us all.

I'd like to believe we gain something from it, but really, it all just makes me worry for the whole country. The rising number of whackos that have now infiltrated our government cannot end well.

They just don'r have complete control over the Frankenstein monster they created.

The NEED a divided government and a divided electorate at each others throats to direct attention away from the strings they pull behind the curtains.

And I wouldn't count on the copllapse of the Republican Party just yet. They won big in the 2014 midterms.

Not much will change unless the Left can GOTV, and for that we need a candidate who will inspire and motivate a big chunk of the citizenry that often doesn't bother to vote.

They still control congress, because they keep winning congressional elections with their lunacy. Us democrats can complain about gerrymandering and voter suppression and all the rest of it, and maybe that needs to be fixed, but in the end, we are doing something horribly wrong when we can't take congress from these idiots.

Really. People need to understand that while they have gone insane (or at least have taken the costumes off and are now showing their true selves) they STILL control the House (with a vast majority), the Senate, 4-5 Supreme Court Members, and a majority of state governorships and legislatures.

Until that tide rolls back and sane folks control all of that you had better be scared, not triumphant.

People are so focussed on POTUS, but they seem to ignore all the rest. Well, no POTUS can govern without some cooperation at some level.

Barack Obama has done remarkably well in spite of the fact that Democrats have just the White House and little else.

Like you I thought of them as someone I could agree to disagree with. Small government, fiscal responsibility, strong defense - these were things reasonable people could debate about. Now, I cannot imagine respecting a Republican. I can still respect a true conservative but how any of them can still be Republican is baffling to me.

I've heard it declared dead at least half a dozen times -- starting with the '74 Watergate-fueled midterm. The GOP is like that villain in a Wes Craven horror flick -- they don't ever die -- they just reappear for the sequel.
