... In 2014, the board of directors of the museum commissioned a strategic plan ... Of the excellent feedback we received, one recurring complaint was that many members of our community did not feel welcomed at the museum because the Third National Flag of the Confederacy flew .. on .. museum grounds ... After many weeks of consultation and discussion, we decided .. to ask Danville City Council to remove the flag and place it in a permanent display inside the museum ... Danville City Council approved an ordinance that .. removed the flag from .. museum grounds. In response, some members of the community have advocated selling the Sutherlin Mansion to a private entity ... We believe that the jewel of Main Street is .. more than .. a plot of land for a Confederate flag ...
