The chairman of the House Select Committee on Benghazi on Sunday accidentally leaked what he had characterized as classified information in a testy back-and-forth with the panel's ranking Democrat, Politico reported.
Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-SC) appeared to leak the name of a CIA source by accident while responding to a scathing letter from Rep. Elijah Cummings (R-MD). Cummings wrote Gowdy early Sunday demanding that he apologize to Hillary Clinton for falsely claiming she mishandled classified information by forwarding an email containing the CIA source's name to an aide. His letter noted the CIA notified the select committee on Saturday that the email contained no information it deemed classified.
Yahoo News first noticed that the CIA source's name, Mousa Kousa, appeared in a subject line but was redacted elsewhere in the full text of a March 2011 email between Clinton and her confidante Sidney Blumenthal that the chairman released on Sunday. By Monday morning, the document had been replaced with another in which Kousa's name did not appear at all, according to Politico.

A spokesman for the State Department said Monday in a press briefing that "human error" caused Kousa's name to appear in the first version of the email that the committee released, according to Politico. The spokesman, Mark Toner, said the State Department wanted to protect the source's privacy even though the CIA had no objections to releasing his name.

(23,946 posts)the very foundation of the personally written by Gowdy hand written redaction, to protect the CIA source that Gowdy said Clinton revealed and was "vital to security be protected" had ALREADY been leaked..by Gowdy??
And this is on top of Gowdy having redacted something, to repeat, in his own handwriting at the last minute to then release to the media to then personally use to pretend to be outraged at the potential breach of national security - all stuff that did not need redacting - and Gowdy did not bother to ask the CIA?? - all to smear Clinton??
You can not make this shit up....when are the indictments and impeachment of Gowdy and company....and there is a lot of company.

(1,254 posts)Gowdy followed up with another letter to Cumming blaming the State Department for this debacle because when they released the email to the committee, the State Dept. left the name intact. Then following this weekend with Cummings exposing Gowdy for telling lies, Gowdy releases the email to the public with the name redacted except they missed it in the email subject title. They GOOFED but now blame the State Dept. The WORST part is WHO the GOP is upset about in this alleged breach of security. A suspected TERRORIST believed to be behind the planning of the Lockerbie passenger jet bombing!. Not in the LEAST BIT concerned about a breach of national security when the Bush Administration leaked an AMERICAN CIA AGENT (VALERIE PHLAME) DIRECTLY TO THE PRESS, but now ready to hang Hillary for passing on the name of a informant/snitch in a PRIVATE email, a suspected TERRORIST who may be responsible for the death of 270 people! This is downright DESPICABLE.

(1,145 posts)Republicans are trying (and failing) to make political hay out of Hillary's bungled regime change schemes in Libya, but the real scandal that is going unmentioned by either political party and their media accomplices is the fact that both our current president and his State Department endeavored to destroy one of the African continent's most prosperous and stable countries, all in the name of Bush/Cheney-style regime change.
After Gaddafi was beaten, tortured, sodomized, humiliated, dragged through the street and shot dead by Islamic thugs, Hillary Clinton took to the air waves to gloat about the death of a respected African leader. Look at Libya now and the mess she and Obama are not being held accountable for creating. Any African American still supporting either Obama or Clinton needs to wise up and learn what's really going on. Both smile in the faces of Black people while having their servants slip some poison in our drinks.
Here is a good article detailing exactly what Libya was like under Gaddafi before US/NATO intervention destroyed it. Many of you won't believe a word of it because it's information you've never been privy to and all you've heard is the usual "bad dictator" mantra that our media reproduces when they want to fool you into supporting American barbarism.
Take a moment to read this article and then wonder why Hillary isn't being questioned about her wisdom in pushing for the destruction of Libya. This is why I could never in a thousand years vote for someone like Hillary Clinton.

(1,145 posts)that Americans are presented with time and time again, had always maintained secular views as far as women there and how there were treated in society. None had to wear coverings or burqas, they went to schools, held jobs and positions of authority. Whatever bad can be said about him (and there is some bad to say), he wasn't a crazy, insane psychopath who didn't care about the common people who lived in Libya.
It makes me absolutely furious that we (and NATO) completely destroyed this country and allowed religious fanatics to set back the progress that had been made. I'd like to see both Hillary and Obama talk about how wise a decision they think this was and what good it did.

(26,663 posts)something America's been doing for decades with predicable results, but we do it anyway. I've been trying to count how many times this has happened in my lifetime, but can't come up with a number, There's always one I forgot.
It is time for an administration that breaks from this ingrained and insane policy. I think Kennedy may have tried after seeing the error of his ways in the Bay of Pigs fiasco, but that didn't turn out so well.

Trying to rehab the image of a dictator to make Clinton - and Obama, bonus - appear bad?

(1,145 posts)you probably didn't know about this "dictator".
Like I said, most Americans are curious enough to actually find out who these "dictators" are or what their countries are actually like. Our media NEVER provides that type of information, and when they do, it's a carbon-copy, standardized "dictator" narrative that can be literally used for any foreign head of state we don't like.
This is a smear coming from the left wing, not the right. The right wing supports regime change and the undermining of stability just as much as liberals do. You guys are a lot more alike than different when it comes to foreign intervention.
