Alzheimer's drug - can it be that simple?

[IMG][/IMG]

Seems that I'm reading more and more stories about how Alzheimer's is related to inflammation. Basically, the older you get the more aches and pains you accumulate which inflames your entire system - including the brain. Could a drug as simple as a common nose spray really be one simple answer?

to do what they are commonly prescribed for. And look at aspirin and its blood thinning effect with regard to cardiovascular issues - it was initially just a painkiller, of course.

To my knowlege no medicine has ever been shown to significantly REVERSE nuerodegneration. Some have claimed success in clearing amyloid plague which is implicated in Alzheimer, but actually promoting detectable neurogenesis? AFAIK never.

&quot Montelukast) promoted neuron growth at a rate that was about 50 per cent of that seen in the younger rats – significantly higher than the control group. 'Structurally, the brain had rejuvenated...I think the drug reverses the damage associated with ageing,' said Dr Aigner.

'We've restored learning and memory 100 per cent, to a level comparable with youth,' he added.

The scientist presented his findings last week at a meeting of the Society for Neuroscience in Chicago.

'It's a very promising approach,' Arthur Roach, director of research and development at charity Parkinson's UK told the New Scientist. 'They've reversed certain aspects of the aged brain.'

This is extraordinary. The only thing I can say is it's Mice, it's only Mice. A number of drugs cure can cancers in Mice, but fail completely in humans. Nevertheless, if half way replicated in humans, this could recast the human condition.
