I've always adored and admired President Carter. It'd be very difficult to find a greater humanitarian.

(33,688 posts)was the product of at least four decades' planning. The same people who hated FDR and the New Deal provided the money then, and their heirs are bankrolling the ongoing propaganda, psyops and intentional dumbing down of the people.
The Nazi sympathizers among the plutocracy never went away. They laid low until they could take over.

(23,617 posts)...then that fucking sonofa(not-acceptable-term-on-DU) cut my financial aid by half+, cut aid to the university (which responded with a 22% tuition increase), AND fucked up the economy, which cost my father his job. So I wound up a) NOT going to law school (ever), and b) trying to find a job (guess what that was like in the raygun years, let alone one that would allow me to pay off student loans, pay rent, and help out my parents). Had to postpone marriage for so long that the girl finally dumped me.
you can understand my raging hatred of that fucking basturd Reagan and his evil spawn the bushes. And the rest of the GOP horse's ass he rode in on. My number-one goal in life these days is to soak that fucker's grave with my urine.

(11,489 posts)Definitely one of the best human beings ever to be President. And in my book, the only real Christian to hold the office in the last 100 years. Nobody has done more for peace and helping humanity.

I wish we could declare him a Living National Treasure, as the Japanese do with their extraordinary people. No one deserves it more.

In 1984, the World Health Organization (WHO) asked the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to spearhead the effort of its eradication, an effort that was further supported by the Carter Center.[30] In 1986, former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his not-for-profit organization, the Carter Center, began leading the global campaign, in conjunction with CDC, UNICEF, and WHO.[36] At that time Pakistan, Yemen and 17 countries in Africa were endemic for this disease and reported a total of 3.5 million cases per year.
In 2014 there were 126 cases of the disease reported.[8] This is down from 3.5 million cases in 1986.[2] It only exists in 4 countries in Africa, down from 20 countries in the 1980s.[1][8] The country most affected is South Sudan.[8] It will likely be the first parasitic disease to be globally eradicated.[9] Guinea worm disease has been known since ancient times.[2] It is mentioned in the Egyptian medical Ebers Papyrus, dating from 1550 BC.[10] The name dracunculiasis is derived from the Latin "affliction with little dragons",[11] while the name "guinea worm" appeared after Europeans saw the disease on the Guinea coast of West Africa in the 17th century.[10] A species similar to guinea worms causes disease in other animals.[12] These do not appear to infect humans.[12] It is classified as a neglected tropical disease.[13

(15,139 posts)a Jimmy Carter book signing. He greeted everyone in the long line with a smile and a "hello," but when he saw me carrying my toddler, he reached up, touched her arm, said "hello, darlin," and told me she was beautiful. It was a moment I'll never forget. A true gentleman and an extraordinary humanitarian. Best former President. No one else in his league.

He forgot his wife's birthday one year and gave her an IOU for anything she wanted. Her request? He bring her coffee in bed every morning and he does.
He still blushes when he talks about Roslyn. I think it's heartwarming.
He is a great man in so many ways.

(23,156 posts)that Jimmy Carter is the best President of the second half of the twentieth century. Back when he was being universally reviled and blamed for all the things that simply were not his fault, I knew he'd been one the best Presidents ever.
I've never gotten to meet him, probably never will, and for that I'm very sorry.

A truly great man. Both he and his wife have core values to emulate.
Great photo. I worked on a house here in Thailand for H4H some years ago next to the house he and Rosalyn worked on. What fun it was to shake his hand and tell him personally I had worked on the Carter Center Guinea Worm Eradication Project when I was Peace Corps in Cote d'Ivoire.
