Last year around this time oil was around $69.00 a barrel, and the national average for regular gas was around $2.81. Today oil prices are around $42.00 a barrel and the national average of gas is $2.20.
So oil as dropped around $27.00 a barrel, and gas has only went down .61 cents a gallon. Once again it looks like gas prices are being manipulated to stay higher, at least till after the Thanksgiving holidays. Some how the math really doesn't seem to be working in favor of the consumers.
In my area gas is at $2.57 a gallon and has been stuck there, even though oil prices have been dropping, for over a month now. Just like in the summer, I expect to see it stay this way until next month, after the Thanks giving holiday. Sumer prices here were around $3. 21 a gallon, and did not start to drop till after Labor day weekend, and then it took a few weeks to drop.

(3,595 posts)Our gas tax is low and will not be raised because Christie is running for president.
Meanwhile, the roads crumble. $600. of pot hole damage to car last winter.

(11,495 posts)We do have a higher gas tax than most, so I do understand why we are a bit higher than some other areas.

Because of the Keystone decision? Upcoming holiday travel? Because they can. At least it's significantly down from a year ago.
Like you said they do it because they can"!
They manipulated oil prices up over $100.00 a barrel from the time George W. took office till last year. The flooded the market with oil, a record surplus, and now are crying because they are not making the record billions in profits they were used to. We still have a huge surplus, yet they continue to manipulate prices at the pump, as you sated, because they can.
