Leveling the playing field would end grade inflation and discrimination. It would keep Trump, Bush and Clinton from buying degrees and having outsized influence over the curriculum of colleges and universities.
Equal access to education is exactly the right thing.
Trump and Clinton and the rich people they represent will ALWAYS be able to afford college, or health care, or an abortion.
That's the problem!
Any proposal that helps the middle class and below, Hillary is there to make sure the best interests of the Wall Street rich are represented.
Jesus, Hillary. We get enough of your bullshit false morality from Republicans.

More bogus populism and fake class envy from one of Trumps fellow 1% ers.
She isn't really fooling anybody with this bullshit.

Class warfare is class warfare.

(18,652 posts)It's very hard to carry the banner against 1% excesses, failure to hold Wall St. banksters accountable and buying of politicians when you're a 1%er yourself.

(25,699 posts)It's no different than her opposition to Glass-Steagal or single-payer healthcare. She opposes these ideas, but that sounds bad when talking to democrats, so she tries to couch it in faux-progressive demagoguery.

(36,846 posts)Just as I don't care if someone who has chronic/severe medical needs utilizes 100x more healthcare dollars than I ever would in my lifetime. I still support a single payer system.

(12,151 posts)which of course they generally don't, and probably would not even if they were free, public schools and public education would fare much better in the American political system. Suddenly public schools would be a huge priority, instead of a target for abuse, which would be GOOD thing.

(45,251 posts)For starters, the rich already have access to free K through 12 for their children, if they want it.
Universal free education has always been a point of pride in this nation , not something we stingyed on. And most of them go to private schools anyway. Can anyone tell me why 13 years of free education for Baron Trump, if his father would "lower himself" to that, is perfectly fine and doesn't ever get mentioned, but 2-4 years of higher education is not? A college degree today is as necessary as a high school diploma was 100 years ago. And much more than in 1635, when the first public school opened in Boston (made compulsory in 1642).
Sanders will be taxing the rich more. So, the money will not be coming from "the rest of us" but from all of us, just as everything paid for with taxes comes from all of us. The real problem is that too many of the rich and too many corporations do not pay their fair share of taxes, not that Baron Trump may opt for free public college.
Finally, Baron Trump is going to an Ivy League, as did Hillary and Bill (Stanford for Chelsea), not to SUNY.

(39,215 posts)can bitch about it. It is for public colleges - most of the rich will never send their kids to a public school in the first place so we will not be paying for them.

College should be the same.
I don't care if Trump's kids go to public college for free any more than I will care when Clinton's grandchildren get the exact same opportunity.
Means tested neoliberal bullshit is all this is.

(15,715 posts)graduates of El Dorado Public Schools. Murphy Oil will pay the tuition of any graduate at the current rate of in state tuition. If you go to Harvard or Yale, they will pay the Arkansas in-state rate. I do not know what it is per semester but lets say "$3000. I would imagine Bernies plan would be close to the same. Just like Medicare is. The government will pay the standard rate for your state, if that isn't enough for Yale, well you will have to come up with the rest. But if you can go to an instate school for 2 or 4 years and then move to a big school, well you have saved a lot of money.
In January 2007, Murphy announced that it would set aside $50 million to ensure that every student graduating from the local school system, in El Dorado, would be able to afford college. The scholarship, which requires that students spend a certain number of years in the El Dorado school system and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A. while in college, pays tuition and all mandatory fees for students, up to the highest annual rate currently charged by an Arkansas public university. Scholarship amounts are paid based on length of attendance in the El Dorado Public School District. For example, graduates who attend all 13 years at EPS will receive 100 percent of the scholarship.[3]

(1,252 posts)There who always be private institutions that cater to the ultra wealthy. That 1% will pay big bucks so they don't have to sit in coach with the test of us. So her argument is not even real and everyone knows it.

(53,866 posts)to pay for them. the idea that rich kids don't go to state schools is pretty absurd, not all rich kids have the grades to go to private school. My brother has 7 suite-mates and several of their parents are incredibly well off. maybe not trump well off, but $1 million dollar annual income well off.
