We do not go after long-term posters, but after the n00bs with post counts under 100. And we have to have consensus!

There's more, but those are the basics.

... is that when they wrest trolls from under the bridge and eject them, their posts become "Name Removed".

Often - on those rare occasions I happen to stumble upon one before MIRT takes aim (rare because MIRT is Bruce Lee fast, I tell you) - I have found their posts to be some of the most entertaining collection of outrageous, illogical, fallacy-filled crap I have ever seen on DU! Hysterical. Classic "Get a brain, morans" funny!

When I see "Name Removed", I can't help but wonder what I have missed.

Oh well. I have seen the periodic post of the responses and private messages the trolls fling back at Admin as they descend into oblivion - Love 'em, and I guess I'll have to be satisfied with that.

When we (or the admins) boot a poster under 100 posts, "Name Removed" is automatic; we have no control over that designation. The rationale, as I remember, was to clean up the board because unfortunately, some of the things drive-by trolls post are exceptionally rude, bigoted, and/or disgusting. While it certainly would show some of the venom spewed by nutbars, it would also create it's own problems as some would focus on those posts. There is also the spam-bots and their messages are just spam, though sometimes it is really funny as hell.

So, most of the time, you aren't really too much. But I won't lie, there have been some DUzies.

... if a troll dropping remained visible it would get attention and still be disruptive. And truly obscene posts have no place here.

But still, we could have a "wall", perhaps, where admin could post the juiciest, funniest intrusions - no comments. Just see them. We could call it "Under the Bridge"

I was a Mod on DU and a host/MIRT here. Glad I did it, but I'm done.

MIRT is the best group on DU. Posters that hold diametrically opposite positions in the main forums work peaceably together and toward the same goal in MIRT.

If you've never volunteered for a term in MIRT, I'd strongly encourage you to do so. The time commitment isn't big, and it takes almost no time to get up to speed on how the group works.

The scope of what MIRT does is strictly limited, and nothing - and I mean NOTHING - is done without consensus.
