Apparently, some members took that as a personal insult. That was not my intention at all! As stated in that thread, I believe MM made that post for self-gain using the plight of the refugees.

If you have a different opinion, that's great! What I don't understand is the personal attacks dirieving from that post. I tried to ignore it but it seems to keep getting more and more.

So, it seems my presence in itself is disruptive to the community. I don't want that! So I come before the community to ask you your opinion.

Would you prefer that I go away or do I stay here and let things blow over?

To any host, I'm not trying to make a meta-thread. On the contrary, I wish to minimize the disruptions that I'm causing. I would ask that this stay open to allow the community to give their opinion. If indeed the consensus is for me to go, then I will. I do not wish to cause any problems for you, the community, or for Skinner. Thank you!

You have no evidence of wrongdoing, just your opinion that he is using Syrians for his own publicity purposes. So it's kind of jarring to read your words of attack against the man.

As to whether you should stay or go, that's one of the many areas where you're going to need to take personal responsibility. It's your responsibility to decide whether you should stay or go. The words you type are your responsibility. If you're looking for someone to stroke your ego and tell you you're a good person and so on, I'm not that person. You're responsible for how you feel about yourself.

Michael Moore is not necessarily some liberal icon whose motives are above questioning.

While he seems to be on the correct side of most issues, he is definitely prone to an unseemly degree of self promotion and this seems to be an opportunity for him to keep his name in the news.

Particularly since he knows he will most likely not be called upon to make good on his offer.

There are some here who relish in silencing discourse.

Perhaps they haven't matured past high school, perhaps they are caught up in political hysteria, perhaps they are just abusive and treat everyone like that. Some seem unable to have an exchange of ideas, instead work on flagging threads, bullying, work with counter ops, psy-ops, etc. to control messaging.

Since this is a quasi-public board, all types join and participate.


Having said that, what type of response did you anticipate from a half-baked post like that?

Something is seriously wrong with posters who hurl that kind of invective at others on a discussion board. I even read that poster's profile and learned that he/she was WAY beyond old enough to know better.

Sometimes when we think we are clear, we are to ourselves but not to others. Your point seemed to be you thought he was posing rather than honestly helping. It is ok to have opinions, but sometimes it is necessary to take time to explain your opinions clearly.
