I wasn’t raised to fear people with a difference of opinion. They are merely victims of a disease in

Racism is alive and well, and it rears its ugly head more often than those of us who are rightfully horrified by bigotry would like. However, one would think that something like the new Star Wars film, of all things, would not be a reason for bigots to show their true colors. It was, though, because it just so happens that the leading actor for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is black. And racists can’t stand it.

John Boyega is from Britain, and his background is Nigerian. Racists are actually calling for a boycott on social media because of Boyega being in the role. Here are just a few images of that nastiness:

However, the brilliant actor– who happens to be the first black leading man in a Star Wars film — didn’t let these imbeciles get to him. In fact, his response was perfect. Speaking with the New York Times, Boyega said:

“I’m grounded in who I am, and I am a confident black man. A confident, Nigerian, black, chocolate man. I’m proud of my heritage, and no man can take that away from me. I wasn’t raised to fear people with a difference of opinion. They are merely victims of a disease in their mind.

I just don’t get it. You guys got every single alien in this movie imaginable to man — with tentacles, five eyes. Aliens that, if they existed, we’d definitely have an issue… Yet what you want to do is fixate on another human being’s color. You need to go back to school and unlearn what you have learned. I think Yoda said that, or Obi-Wan.”

BOOM! Couldn’t have given these racists a better response to their irrational hate. And, to top it all off, this insane

procreating with a black storm trooper if that is what she chooses (except that storm troopers are not real). Do have a problem with people talking about my daughter like she is a cow or prize show pony.

Being hard-wired by genetics to bigotry isn't considered a form of insanity, though, because, like disease, it can be mitigated, even if not eliminated. These people can change substantially and are responsible for their behavior. Good for Boyega, though. They deserve to be dismissed.

My daughter and SIL snuck out in the middle of the day to see the premiere of this movie secretly. Their boys don't know because tickets are going to be in their Christmas stockings; and they enjoyed it so much they're happy to see it all over again. How nice to hear it isn't a disappointment.
