Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday blasted a Washington Post editorial cartoon that portrayed his two young daughters as monkeys on leashes, stating that children should be off-limits.
"Not much ticks me off, but making fun of my girls, that will do it," Cruz told reporters in Tulsa, Okla. His daughters Caroline and Catherine are 7 and 5, respectively.
"Don't mess with my kids. Don't mess with Marco's kids. Don't mess with Hillary's kids. Don't mess with anybody's kids. Leave kids alone," Cruz said.
The Post has since taken down the online animated cartoon, by Pulitzer Prize winner Ann Telnaes, which depicted Cruz holding two dancing monkeys on leashes. The headline was, "Ted Cruz uses his kids as political props."

(14,449 posts)This needs to stop. Nobody's kids asked for this. And putting two little Cuban girls as monkeys is a bit racist I would think. If you don't agree then use that comic strip for all the politicians and if it works for all then ok but if it doesn't work for all then it is a nasty comic.
And no I can't stand Cruz but nastiness and racism are unacceptable.

(30,811 posts)But then I saw that he is sharing this same cartoon with donors to raise money. So now this offensive use of his children is actually being promoted by Cruz.
That is even more disgusting than the cartoon itself, because he is their father and should be more interested than anybody else in keeping them out of the fray.
His commercial was awful too, using his daughters to spout right-wing comments. Someday those girls are going to be adults and they may even become Democrats. At that time, they would rightfully resent being 'prostituted' by their father in this way.
