Happy New Year, DU: "It's Going to Be Okay"

Matthew Inman ("The Oatmeal&quot created this cool comic about how we are all sharing an amazing journey through life together.

Sorta seemed like an appropriate New Year greeting to all my friends here.

And remember, it's true... "It's Going to be Okay."

affectionately,
Bright

1. Drunk history version:

This guy was in this plane in like the 1940's or something everyone was in Pan Am outfits so it was like a hundred years ago. He was the pilot.

They were all flying in India to the US maybe I don't remember get me another beer. So he was like 'Everyone stay calm in your seats because this plane ride is smooth sailing. Would anyone like to have more peanuts or a beer or smoke or whatever just wander around and relax and be stylish.'

So this lady looks out the window and she's like "OMG the engine's on fire!'

This pilot guy he went back and told her 'STFU! You are full of shit!'

No wait - he told her 'Everything's gonna be okay. I am the captain of this ship and when I say it's gonna be okay then it's gonna be okay. Don't make me have to knock you out.'

And the lady was like 'Bullshit! We're all going down. Not like going down. Like we're all gonna crash. And we'll all wake up dead. It totally sucks.'

So he was like 'Yeah! You're right. It IS bullshit.'

Then the plane went crashing into the ocean. No, the desert. A few people died but there were lots of survivors. But the passengers were all 'We're in the Sahara Desert. This sucks. It's hot. There's no water. The peanuts didn't survive the crash.'

The pilot went full beast mode. He was like 'I'm a badass. I'm going back in that plane even though I have broken ribs. I'm going to go get more people out of the plane.' Then he went all Terminator and started kicking the shit out of everybody. Or. Most of them he saved. Well maybe he didn't save them all but like most survived.

When is the pizza ready?

So check it out. The dude - the pilot - was like 'I'm George Lucas!. No. I'm the Gene Blackberry guy who will some day write Star Trek!'

And they were all like 'WTF is Star Trek?' But he was like 'I don't know I haven't written it yet!' And the lady was like 'Okay. But call someone. There's a radio over there that I do not know how to operate.'

So he called up someone and said 'Get her now so we can all thank you for saving our lives!'

So get this. Later he freaked out. He said 'I now realize there's more to life than engines on fire. More than crawling out of workage. Wordage. Reckless. Wreckage.'

So he went and wrote Rocky! Or Star Trek! So remember.

Every little thing is gonna be alright. Maybe it was Bob Marley.

No. It was the Star Trek guy.

Happy new year Bright!

Here's some drunk history on Jim Thorpe:

Yeah, it's amazing.

I tend to lose sight of the awesomeness of the shared journey, especially when I'm deep in our own part of it.

Stories like that remind me what I'm part of.

happily,
Bright
