Ibra: The Blanket Dweller kitty rescue by R. Alcobendas Seattle, WA

Our eight-year-old longhair cat, Sofie, was done being lonely. She needed a companion to be home with while we worked downtown, and we were determined to find someone for her to be with. In fact, we were so determined, we decided on a name long before looking.

Regardless of whether our new cat would be a boy or girl, their name would be "Ibra". Pronounced like "zebra" without the "z", Ibra would be an adopted kitten named after our favorite soccer player Zlatan Ibrahimovic. We anticipated this kitten to have the same class and arrogance as their namesake, while having the talent and looks to back "all of the talk".

Our kitten was introduced to us one afternoon after helping some friends move. A very good friend of ours, who helped at a local shelter, introduced us to one of the kittens they were fostering. It was a baby girl, in the most pleasant balance of white and black fur with big, bold eyes that could take your breath away. Her bottom jaw was an asymmetric cover of black fur, which gave her a permanent smirk everywhere she went, and anyone she looked at.

We introduced Ibra to Sofie when she turned one-and-a-half months old. After slowly giving them more and more time and exposure with one another, they became very good with one another. Sofie was already a mother, and had spent years with one of her litter, so being around Ibra would be no unfamiliar undertaking. Ibra was fostered with her sister and other older cats, so she was not new to being around others like herself (even though she prefers the spotlight like the athlete she is named after).

Today, six months later, Ibra is healthy and happy. She gets (more than) her fair share of food and is an absolute joy watching play, whether it is at the expense of her various toys or Sofie. Ibra is incredibly affectionate, and when she's not running through the house or sleeping on my chest, she loves being under the covers with us at night. Best companion, ever, easily.
