I think he understood early on what Barack Obama's presidency signified, and he felt he wanted to be a loyal part of it.
We can read of the rancor between the Kennedys and Lyndon Johnson. But this White House has been an entirely different experience.

(21,506 posts)He is a sweet man. I have a signed pic of him on my wall with him holding my kid. Somewhere I have a video of him during the primaries holding that same kid up in his arms and the crowd going awwww..
I feel quite lucky I got to talk to him one on one twice and both times he struck me as a very genuine caring guy.
I will always have a soft spot for Joe.
