Early on, she did a report aboard a Navy ship in which she referred to the ship's "boat jail." After hearing from tons of watchers telling her it's called the brig, she covered it humorously in her next show, with a bunch of her staff agreeing with her, in turn, that it's a boat jail.

Many many years ago, I had a boyfriend who was Navy and he and his gang of pirates reveled in telling stories of their times in the brig during the war. Their very own definition of such places was slightly different from Rachel's in their high seas tales, calling it the ship jail for ignorant civilians like me, but the descriptions were colorful (and quite shiny...polishing steel floors and such).

are all caught between a rock and a hard place.

Maintain your income and lifestyle or stick to your progressive principles and don't broadcast repug crap and quit.

With her credentials, great talent and progressive bona fides she would land on her feet.

It's that simple.

She just hasn't made that decision so it makes one wonder . . . who is she?

It's more of what she 'can't' bring up due to where she works. Primarily TPP, Net Neutrality or much about the citizens united decision, unless she wishes to be Schultzed right out the door. It does pose a good deal of disappointment. It is a somewhat lucrative safe position to hold and ends up eventually capturing a good deal of people over time.

But for the stories she does (and) can cover, she really does the hard work and brings out the hard truth to the matter.

and she takes her orders from this Corporation.
There are many stories she is forbidden to cover, and she complies,
though occasionally tip toes close to the edge.

I had to stop watching Rachel and Olberman in 2008 after the Iowa Democratic Primary.
Obama took first, but what was more stunning is that Edwards took a strong 2nd.
In reporting on the Iowa Caucus, Edwards name and stunning 2nd Place was NEVER mentioned
by either Olbermann or Rachel.

They co-ordinated in airbrushing Edwards strong 2nd place Out of the Race.
I have never before witnessed where an hour is spent on the 1st Place Winner, and the 3rd Place Miss Congeniality without ever mentioning the name of the strong 2nd Place contender.
I found it mind boggling at the time,
but thoroughly understand it now.

Even Rachel takes her orders from her Corporate Betters.

I shoulda' read further down on the post but responded similarly in a fashion above. Knowing what is supplying her income I have been less drawn to watching the show only limiting myself to any good topics she has posted on DU.

They are ComCast FFS.

Now if she would ever feel comfortable enough with her savings one day and make a move to FreeSpeech TV I would definitely be more interesting in view what she covers!

I love Rachel. I have followed her career at Air America. She was pushed to the 6 AM slot to do early news as they experimented on how to do things better there, the problem being, there was nothing wrong with the original line up. It was all about the management.

I miss those days of the first Air America Radio. Left wing radio has never, and I mean never had it so good.

She's now on cable news, and I think that she and Lawerence are awesome.

MSNBC keeps very tight control on what she is allowed to say and where she can go with her commentary. MSNBC began making a sharp right turn long ago and now there is virtually no substance to their reporting. Their corporate masters control the message and that message is conservative republican corporate dogma. Rachel is in a no win situation if she chooses to stay with the rest of the corporate stooges who whore for MSNBC.
