(135,425 posts)"There was a gunshot and we thought it was a light bulb exploding in the theater, so no one really reacted," Grushke said.
Just as he realized it was a shooting, Grushke said he saw a man running to the exit. As he left the theater, he says he saw a woman with a gunshot wound.
"We saw the lady, she was laying on the bench with a shot in her upper chest," he said.
They're still looking for the guy....

Good aim for someone appearing intoxicated tho

(135,425 posts)Sometimes (as I admit I often note) the actual story is the simplest. The guy was a drunken idiot and this horrible event was an "accidental discharge."

(54,770 posts)I'm saying, most of the cases where some yahoo blasts away would have ended with a stolen wallet or jewelry if the gun nut had not been so quick to exercise his 2nd Amendment right and make trainers like Massad Ayoob happy. Or if you really need it simple, you don't need to shoot, and very likely don't need a gun.
Too many gunners are just like George Zimmerman or the Bundy Ranch Militias.
Waldorf
(654 posts)gun trainers? I don't think so. And I don't side with the criminals who steal the wallet or jewelry. If a citizen exercises their 2nd Amendment Right to stop a crime happening to them, more power to them.

(654 posts)I just don't feel sympathy for the criminals who might get shot by a citizen protecting their self or their family.
Hoyt
(54,770 posts)Some folks spend days training to do just that, whether the "criminal" is armed or not. Some of the gungeoneers speak of how they would shoot a car stereo thief in the back as they flee. Others like to practice to shoot people at long distance, like that could ever be considered self-defense in anything but a war zone.

(3,508 posts)Which sounds like the only way they would have caught him-just saw an interview with a guy who was at a restaurant next door, saw the guy stumble in, drop his gun and go into the bathroom.
He said he told management he saw a guy drop a gun, but apparently they did nothing, or not quickly enough, the witness said he saw him stumble out the front door and thru the parking lot with his gun.
Then the police ran over in that direction, but too late.

(36,827 posts)Guns do not make people safer. They always make people less safe. Promoting the idea that there's somehow a safe way to do something that's inherently unsafe to begin with even in the best of circumstances doesn't make much sense. The more people carry guns around with them, the more "accidental" shootings there will be. It's a very simple cause and effect relationship.

(17,635 posts)first make sure the gun is unloaded and you will be unlikely to load it successfully while drunk.
There are so many cascading responsibilities with actually being a "responsible gun owner". I'm sure there are a few who can handle it, but the average Trump-supporting reality-show-watching numbutz just isn't going to manage it.
The problem is, that when they fail, it is usually someone else who is hurt or killed.

(16,245 posts)And they should be required to pay medical expenses of those they injure, in addition to criminal penalties.
We talk a lot about gun deaths, which are close to the number of deaths from car accidents, but we rarely consider the cost to society of injuries.
This woman, if she survives, faces a lifetime of damage. People don't always recover to 100%. Often they suffer for years or may be paralyzed. And they or their personal insurance company covers the cost, which may be in the millions. Why do we not hold gun owners responsible for this damage?
