We just had a big earthquake, 6.4

But aside from a broken full-length mirror that fell off our bedroom wall and shattered, and some shattered nerves, we are fine. It was a good one, though, centered west southwest of Anchor Point.

Edit in the morning - apparently this was upgraded to 7.1.

I remember a 6.7 in Humboldt County around 1979 that had me standing in a doorway with an infant in my arms at 3:00AM. Dropped some bridges and caused some slides too.

we went through a short duration 4 something on New Years eve 1973 in Richardson Vista, the entire buildings rocked side to side, the stereo fell off the shelf, and the cats went crazy. No real damage though.

Glad you're OK>

The 6.4 was reported immediately after and they usually get adjusted up or down. It was one of the scarier ones I've felt here, and I've been through quite a few in my 40 years here.

Glad you are fine.

Professionals in the earthquake area seem to be asking that folks be prepared with provisions, for a big quake along the West Coast, between the fracking operation west of L.A. (Ludlow CA area), north and between, central Alaska, along the continental plate.

Editing: a 7.1 earthquake struck close by you seconds later at 83 Km East of Old Iliamma, Alaska at 10:30:30 GMT.

I like to listen to a few songs on my iPod before I go to sleep and do a little meditation, so I was on about the second song when the bed started shaking. At first I thought it was the dog who sleeps with us, but when I reached over to touch her, she wasn't scratching or anything, so then I realized what was going on. The next thing I know, the mirror is falling off the wall and everything is rocking and rolling. It finally stopped and we got up and cleaned up the glass. I guess there have been a bunch of aftershocks, but after a jolt like that, you don't even notice the little ones.

My brother lives in Homer, directly across Cook Inlet from the epicenter, and he sounded pretty terrified from his FB post. All kinds of stuff fell off their walls and out of their cupboards. He has to clean up a gallon of olive oil.

Breaking glass is so dangerous.
That's pretty significant when stuff is flying out of cupboards. Glad your brother and family are ok.

They can be so deceptive when they first start, can't they? Sometimes like a heavy truck nearby or as you said, like a person or pet moving a bit much.

Glad the aftershocks aren't strongly jolting. Been through some of those and they can be unnerving.
