Demands by Oregon standoff leaders defy logic and law, authorities say

A lot of this article is frustrating, because it's focusing on basically logistical arguments. Which is bad strategy because that implicitly cedes the idea that Bundy and the other "sovereign citizen" thugs actually have principles, or a valid argument. They don't have either. Talking about the logistical or legal implications of trying to do what they want implies that if might actually be acceptable if you could untangle the legal knots, or something.

It's like getting sucked into discussing the logistical problems of dividing up money from a fucking bank heist. No. You're all going to be tried and put in prison, and everybody gets to keep their money. That's the discussion.

BURNS – Occupiers of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge for three weeks have made sweeping demands that local and federal authorities say are both brazen and unrealistic.

They want immediate freedom for imprisoned local ranchers. They want federal deeds voided and private owners to take over the property. They want the county to control the refuge. They want federal grazing permits vacated, leaving ranchers free to graze as they choose. And they say they won't go until they get their way.

Interviews with lawyers, ranchers, federal authorities and others make clear: Little of what they want is likely to happen for reasons that include legal principle, basic property rights, economic forces and cost. Federal authorities also say the occupiers are making demands that fly in the face of the U.S. Constitution.

Trying to apply logic to these people's ideas is so hopeless that it's almost entertaining. It does illustrate the underlying frustration of it all.

It's a pretty good summary of the different issues involved.

The reporter (very impressed with the local reporting on this whole thing) covered every aspect thoroughly.

My post below - everyone from experts to locals says that these Yee Hawdis have absolutely no idea what they are talking about. None
