(3,457 posts)He gets away with habitual lies and never suffers a consequence, why should he stop now?

(82,849 posts)Apparently Gov. Christie is at least acknowledging that there was some flooding, but now he's taken the tack of "What do you want me to do about it? Go down there with a mop?" No, Governor, I don't think I'd trust you with a mop. But while you're out there campaigning for a raise and a promotion, you might consider actually doing the job you have now. Unless you're admitting that being the Governor of New Jersey is really not much of a job at all; you're not responsible for anything, you're not required to do anything, and nobody even expects you to show up.
But I'll bet we'd hear a lot about it if the paychecks stopped coming.

(43,049 posts)It was years ago, maybe around Whitman's time, but I was sliding down Route 17 in North Jersey by Mahawah, past a bus that was overturned and trying to dodge potholes in the packed snow (yes-- the snow was packed down and there were potholes in it)
And on the radio I heard that Route 17 was cleared and back to normal.

(31,823 posts)Cory Booker was in SNJ this a.m. to assess flood damage.
Now does Christie REALLY expect me to believe him over 'Sweet Pea' as we call him in my town?

(11,914 posts)I'll tell you though. I have friends who *WERE* diehard Christie fans (they live in Jersey). I checked FB last night before bed and couldn't believe they were posting comments, pics, etc. criticizing him. Now, they're probably always going to be diehard repubs, but at least they seem to have seen the light as to how Christie lies and what he cares about most.
Their daughter is a politician-wanna-be and is having a "GOP" wedding - everything red, white, blue, etc. Someone made a crack about having anti-Obama stickers as take-aways. I told them I have some recycled elephant poop cocktail napkins they could use for refreshments.

(2,419 posts)a Christie supporter, had this response to the "crazy mayor" comment from my favorite governor.
He's come back to New Jersey for another cameo appearance today and is giving a press conference in Trenton at 2:30. Put your waders back on because it's about to get knee deep around here again.
....and oh, by the way, he just apologized to the "crazy mayor"
Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday morning personally apologized to the mayor of North Wildwood whom he referred to the night before as "crazy."
Mayor Patrick Rosenello, who assailed the governor's decision to return quickly to the campaign trail and then criticize him, told 98.7 The Coast that Christie called him to apologize.
"I do want to say I received a call from Governor Christie this morning just a few minutes ago, actually," Rosenello said.
"He apologized to me. He also asked me to apologize to the first responders and the residents and the the business owners," he said. "I think he recognizes that he misspoke, and he did."
Rosenello made the announcement after slamming Christie in a statement Monday night that expressed his disappointment over Christie's remarks.
Christie had said during a town hall in New Hampshire that he "heard one crazy mayor down in South Jersey say this is worse flooding than Sandy."
The mayor, who supported both of Christie's gubernatorial bids, said he was grateful the governor acknowledged he misspoke.
"I think he knows he misspoke. We know that he misspoke," Rosenello said.
"It's unfortunate that a lot of our, you know, the first responders who were on duty 72 hours ... away from their families, the businesses and the residents who experienced property damage, you know, to to have to sort of go through this the last couple of days of people questioning how bad it was for you," he said. "It's very, very unfortunate. I'm glad that the governor recognized that."
In Christie's original comments about the mayor, the governor said North Wildwood didn't get any flooding during Hurricane Sandy. However, the town did sustain flooding in the wake of Sandy and had to have its dune system rebuilt after the storm.
