Timothy Cardinal Dolan blasts NYT over report he authorized payments to pedophile priests

Timothy Cardinal Dolan yesterday blasted a report that he authorized payments to pedophile priests — and said no such payments are being made to New York clerics.

Dolan, while serving as Milwaukee archbishop in 2003, agreed to pay multiple accused pedophile priests $20,000 in exchange for their agreeing to leave the priesthood, according to documents cited by The New York Times.

Joseph Zwilling, Dolan’s New York Archdiocese spokesman, told The Post last week that there was no “payoff” to pedophile priests — only “charity.”
<snip>
The cardinal also lashed out at an advocacy group — Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests — that has called the payments “secret deals” and “incentives.”
But Dolan fumed, “SNAP has no credibility whatsoever.”

Charity? So that's what they are calling it now.
Dolan didn't respond to the NYT in the NYT. He used the NYP for his fuming and whining.

I think SNAP has more credibility than Dolan and the whole pedo-cabal in the church.

much of anything else, actually.

I think it's telling how often the post is linked here. How such propaganda rags are now cited as legitimate news sources. How propaganda has become normalised.

the fact that you personally happen to dislike the target in this case, so approve of the spun, sensationalized propaganda doesn't change the fact that the article is sensationalized untrustworthy propaganda.

Stop giving money to Dolan and his fellow crooks. That's the only thing that will make them sit up and take notice.

enough to have created the Universe, why does he need other people's money and a tax exemption? Maybe God needs a Donald Trump to handle his business affairs.

Currently unassignable priests are receiving full salaries and are budgeted under the Vicar
for Clergy. There is a proposal to reduce their benefit to be the same as the current
pension benefit, $1,250 per month and also offer $20,000 for laicization ($10,000 at the
start and $10,000 at the completion of the process). Also, they remain on our health
insurance until they find other employment. The final effect of all this is not known at this
time and it may be a wash with the current budget.
