In terms of media distortion, wealth inequality, and anti-immigrant/racist sentiment, things really are about the same as they were 115 years ago. The medial delivery methods are different; the immigrant groups have changed; but the arguments are about the same.

What you are seeing now are suburban and rural whites becoming increasingly reactionary as they come closer to becoming a plurality, not a majority -- and Americans who are deluded enough to think that we can bend the world to our will through military might alone.

Somehow it has all worked out so that a lunatic is going to represent the Republicans. At least I hope more than 50% of voters realize that the Donald is not the right person for the 3am phone call. He'd go back to sleep for starters.
