1. He has integrity.

The man has courage, which is a virtue sorely lacking and not taught in school these days, I'm afraid.

And it is the first among virtues, because without courage, one cannot follow through on one's convictions. He had the courage to fight for his convictions whether it was civil rights for people of color or civil rights for lgbt folks.

It's sad, but we see a lack of courage all around us; it's why kids say nothing when someone is bullied, even if they think it is wrong. They lack courage to follow through on what they believe. I firmly believe that lack of courage is one of the reasons why so much bullying goes on today. Otherwise good people are afraid to speak out.

Sounds terribly old-fashioned, I know...
