NYT - Scalia Took Dozens of Trips Funded by Private Sponsors
I was surprised to read in the NYT today of the members of the Supreme Court accepting boatloads of gifts. Boatloads. All across the board, though some more rapacious than others. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/27/us/politics/scalia-led-court-in-taking-trips-funded-by-private-sponsors.html?hp&action=click&pgtype=Homepage&clickSource=story-heading&module=second-column-region®ion=top-news&WT.nav=top-news
Given Scalia's presence at the top of the list - exceeding Breyer's annual average number of trips by 40% - I think the time might be right for a in-depth investigation into these payoffs - which is precisely what they are - and Scalia's votes on the Court. In this layman's mind, it's nothing more than goodies for votes.
The rationale for these perks/payoffs might sound noble, but they aren't. If Supreme Court justices are not free of any taint, then their decisions aren't free of taint either.
