I even watch the evening news and a morning news show.

(3,937 posts)The internet is many-to-many and peer-to-peer. CNN/FOX/MSNBC are one-to-many.
The demographics for cable news are the oldest audiences in television. The avg age of a CNN viewer is 65, MSNBC 62 and FOX is 69 so there seems to be a lack of younger viewers who are perhaps more comfortable with the internet than with talking heads telling them how to think and feel (usually just "be afraid) about the news and how many days the plane or the pretty blonde lady has been missing.
TV is a highly inefficient source of news and information. It is what creates Trumps.

(51,308 posts)I like a wide variety of news sources.
A lot of internet "news" is bullshit. Witness a DUer recently linking to a story that Warren had endorsed Bernie.
That was nowhere to be seen on any of the news sources that I read (or listen to), so I knew it was nonsense, though I didn't join the pile-on.

Otherwise, no cable, no satellite, no broadcast.
I do subscribe to our local paper, however thin it gets...
"Traditional" television (broadcast, cable, satellite) is probably headed the same way as newsprint. High speed internet has been a very disruptive technology.

(38,311 posts)Legally too (or so I'm told, since I was the dad who'd cut off their internet privileges for downloading music illegally when all their friends were doing it. So they got their music from friends.)
My kids have moved away and live in urban places where there seems to be every sort of neighborhood "sports bar," and they occasionally attend games in person. The only television sports place within walking distance of my house features Mexican and International Football, in Spanish.
When my children were small we'd watch PBS, Sesame Street and Bill Nye and such, so I'd send money to our local PBS station. I don't anymore, and I don't watch PBS either.
It seems the longer I went without television, the less important it was. Whenever I'm exposed to commercial television now I find the advertising intolerable.
I guess I'm satisfied with what's essentially a medium speed DSL internet connection which can reliably deliver one stream of 480p DVD quality video.
We have a modern flat screen LCD television. I don't know what kind of magic it's signal processing circuitry does, but old video tapes look better now than they ever did on our old bulky CRT television. I find movies in thrift stores (tapes are a dollar, a top-of-the-line VCR with digital audio cost me ten dollars) and we also buy and rent DVDs. I rented Mad Max from the Red Box. I wish I'd seen it in theater. My wife and I did see Star Wars the day it was released at our local theater. There's also live music of various sorts in our town. My wife has a friend who plays in the county symphony orchestra.
Maybe I don't know what I'm missing, but I'm okay with that.

(10,237 posts)There is little input about advertising time ,when and where the ads are shown .Ever notice ads for goods and services that are nowhere near where you live ? You're watching a high end cooking show then there is an ad for Butger King .
Viagra ads for golf .

That's 12 years, now, for this 51-year-old man.
If something happens in the world that is important or relevant to people like me (progressive, liberal, Democrat), it gets posted on the DU very fast.
I find commercial television to be generally wretched.
For video news and commentary, the Young Turks, Ring of Fire, Thom Hartmann, and others.
For tech information TWIT.TV.
I used to adore Rachel Maddow, since the Air America days. But now it seems she's either co-opted or muzzled.
Peace.

(12,132 posts)unless you count The Daily Show. (Loved Jon. Still getting used to Trevor)
I keep forgetting to DVR Samantha Bee though. I think I'll text myself a reminder right now.
I still see ads for boner pills though. I don't want any but I will freely admit being a little jealous of that older couple in the outdoor claw-foot tubs. That looks like a nice why to spend an evening.
But my neighbors would probably get mad.
