Their purpose was to recognize the incredible wit of DUers whose observations brought us together by sharing a bit of laughter that all of us could appreciate. Not some ALL. They were initiated as a means to unify DUers, not to pit one group of us against the other. If you looked through the DUzy archives, youd see hundreds of DUzy winners whose posts with incredible wit and style excoriated Republicans and their bullshit. What you wouldnt see is DUers being praised for their ability to post snarky responses to fellow Democrats who disagreed with their opinions. My late husband was extremely proud of his creation of the DUzy Awards. He devoted countless hours to poring through DU posts week-after-week to choose DUzy recipients whose snappy comebacks, one liners, and humourous observations deserved recognition. To see that concept turned into awarding posters for their snark against fellow DUers is truly appalling. I understand that as an HRC supporter, my voice means nothing on DU as it is currently constituted. I appreciate that speaking up for my husbands idea of uniting DUers through humour or otherwise is contrary to what many current DUers want to see happen. And yet I am compelled to speak up and whether my voice falls on deaf ears or not is of little consequence, given what DU has become. If Flying Squirrel or any other BSer wants to create their own award system (the BERNzies?) to recognize what they consider to be witty remarks aimed at HRC supporters, they have every right to do so. But using the DUzy Awards concept complete with logo to highlight the divide between DUers, rather than the unity that a commonly-shared joke can bring, is the total opposite of what the DUzies were meant to achieve.

The fact that the "new" DUzys are tucked away in a group that so many people don't visit or read kind of says it all.

I don't think your post will do much but you know I always have your back.

God knows there's enough funny stuff out there (Republicans, for example) without using the DUzys as ammunition against each other.

DU is not what it once was and I honestly think it will never be again. I am sad to see that the DUZY logo and the concept has been co-opted for hatred and derision instead of laughter and fun. I remember well just laughing my butt off at the idea of Jeff reading through all the posts. I visualized him sitting in a little corner of the room somewhere, a glass of wine sitting really close and some tissues so when he started crying from laughing so hard they would be handy. I miss the hate mail bag, the Duzies, and all the fun we had here. I used to love DU, now, I think it is just pathetic. I come only to read the Hillary Group.
