Has this always been a policy at the DNC that if you run against an opponent you can't access the party's voter database? I never realized this before.
Tim Canova is challenging Debbie Wasserman Schultz in FL 23rd CD. This is part of an email from him today.
Last week, I called the Florida Democratic Party to request access to the voter file database and software known as VAN that is routinely used by Democratic candidates across the country.
I was told that our campaign would be denied access to this database because I am running against an incumbent Democrat, Debbie Wasserman Schultz. I was also told that any Democratic candidate running against an incumbent Democrat would be denied access even a lifelong progressive challenging an out-of-touch incumbent.
This is unfair and undemocratic. My opponent already has untold advantages against an insurgent progressive campaign like ours. We are refusing to take corporate money, while she has taken millions of dollars from Wall Street bankers, payday lenders, private prison companies, and other corporate special interests. How much more of an advantage does Wasserman Schultz need to silence the voices of grassroots voters in our district?
This is nothing less than an entrenched establishment throwing up roadblocks against our political revolution. Weve seen my opponent do this against Bernies presidential campaign and other progressive challengers. As head of the DNC, Wasserman Schultz has pushed strategies that suppress voter turnout, all to protect incumbents and establishment politicians. She has routinely defended the partys use of Superdelegates to block the will of Democratic voters in state after state.
All of this has made our party weaker and more vulnerable against Republicans in general elections, which is so painfully obvious with the Democratic Partys losses in the midterm elections in the past six years 13 Senate seats and 69 House seats, the biggest loss of congressional Democrats in modern political history.

(154,021 posts)and most party members are not told about this. I overheard this but was never able to confirm it, even on background, during the Party Convention. Well, this candidate just did.
For some odd reason, they do not want to talk about it. But this is all the confirmation I ever needed. Now to further burn bridges or not to burn bridges... (Aka to write an article on this, or not). Trust me none will be too happy.

(14,255 posts)To those who airily say (as opposed to those who are more familiar with the DNC machinery) that all we have to do is get liberals into the Democratic ranks - this is one of the ways DWS can stop non-DINOs, and anyone who dares to primary her, in their tracks. I guess I will need to send Canova more money, and maybe some of the cool stuff Bernie has to GOTV can be used on Tim's behalf.

(17,201 posts)I wouldn't have a problem sharing my access against an incumbent, if they were denied legal access.

(88,117 posts)IF they can even get it. This is new to me, that they are denied access.

(17,201 posts)And if this is the game the DNC is playing then we need to send a message that this isn't acceptable behavior and this is why we won't be sending any donation money to the DNC if they refuse to do their jobs.
And like I said I would be willing to help a candidate that was denied access because of the party hierarchy denying access to the VAN. But that's just how I roll, I don't play games when it comes to voting.

(3,795 posts)And, it IS very, very bad.
This makes the Establishment a huge part of the problem.
We need that political revolution if we're ever going to get the Democratic Party to be responsive to the needs of average Americans ever again.
I have a great idea: Let's NOT vote for Establishment Democrats!!

(45,984 posts)Is it the policy of the DNC to deny access to any Democratic primary opponent of a Democratic incumbent or does that apply only if the incumbent Democrat is also the chair of the DNC?
As a follow up question, is this the policy of the DNC or just your personal policy?

(45,251 posts)Supporting only incumbents has been the DNC, DSCC and DCCC policy for a long time.
The DCCC and DSCC recruit DINOs to run, then the DSCC, DSCC and DNC make sure no one can primary them. Just ask Senators Lamont and Halter. Then, they tell us it's all because DINOs are more electible.

(17 posts)Just sent them this email:
Canova For Florida,
It has been brought to my attention (http://www.democraticunderground.com/12511488447) that the DNC Establishment has decided to supress Democracy and basically outright cheat to deny Floridians their right to have a robust and fair hearing of the Candidates who seeks to represent them.
As an IT specialist living outside your District, my only regret is that I will not be able to vote for you. However, my IT skills are are at your disposal as much as I can provide it.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Manuel (Manny)
