I attended Bernie's rally in Columbus, Ohio on Sunday afternoon and had a great time. I waited 3 hours in the rain to get in, but the crowd was still energized. I wanted to share a story about my observations of the Drumpf contingent at Bernie's rally.
First of all, there were only two of them (that's right, two). A guy and a girl. The guy was carrying a camera and the girl was carrying a microphone, and they were walking through the crowd interviewing people in what I can only assume was supposed to be another one of those "let's find the dumbest people here, interview them, selectively edit their responses, and then put it on the internet to show that Bernie's supporters are all stupid" videos. They were both wearing the Donald Drumpf, "I just bought this hat a local gas station" hats, and were both wearing University of Michigan T-shirts (on the Ohio State campus--yeah, they weren't there to start trouble or anything). The girl was carrying (in addition to her microphone) a huge bucket with a Drumpf sign taped to it, which I assume was for donations (which didn't make any sense to me, because Donald Drumpf always makes a big deal about telling us how he's COMPLETELY self-funded, so why would he take donations?)
For the most part, I just saw them moving through the crowd interviewing people without incident. But it just so happened that they interviewed someone right next to me, and I got to hear part of that interview. They chose a guy who was dressed pretty well and looked to be roughly college-aged or maybe a little older. As I got closer, I heard the girl ask a question about how was Bernie going to pay for all this stuff he's promising, followed by the inevitable "he's going to raise your taxes" scare tactic. The guy handled the question brilliantly. And when the taxes part came up I heard him say, "Bernie's got a plan to pay for everything he proposes. But we can talk about his tax program. Would you like to talk about taxes? Because we can." The girl quickly turned to her cameraman with a look of fear on her face and said kind of under her breath, "We can't end on THAT," and gave him the "cut" gesture, then quickly got out of there leaving the guy just laughing in disbelief. As many of us in line congratulated him on his skillful takedown of the two Drumpf shills, I overheard him say, "Yeah, they didn't want to talk to ME anymore."
The two Drumpf interviewers continued to circulate through the crowd for the next few hours, even got interviewed by an ACTUAL camera crew from one of the local news stations here in town, and here's the kicker: THEY WERE NEVER INVOLVED IN A SINGLE INCIDENT. No assaults, no jackbooted thugs appearing to escort them out, no harsh or heated exchanges with the Bernie supporters, why I would venture to say that they never feared for their safety ONCE the whole time they were there. If the shoe were on the other foot, I imagine there would have been a vastly different outcome.

(8,048 posts)You wonder if either of those two came away thinking, "Hmmm, maybe we're all wrong about Bernie and his supporters?" I doubt it, but you never know.
Thanks for sharing this, and best wishes.
