People mention Obama as the trigger of Trumpism, but there's another factor

I agree that the election of Obama probably unhinged a lot of the hard-core wingnuts.

It also bears mentioning that if you take 1980 (the first election of Saint Reagan) as when the current right-wing propaganda trend really kicked off. The rise of conservative hate radio, etc, then it's been going on for 35 years. Long enough for an entire generation to grow up inside this propaganda bubble. So we now have not only a generation of voters, now entering middle age, who literally have spent every day of their lives in this stew of wingnut propaganda, but the younger crop of politicians as well.

Unlike the previous generation of plutocrats, these people don't get the joke. It's not just some tool for them, they believe it.

I feel sure that is contributing to the political climate.

I believe that is as big a problem as the election of President Obama, bigger as a matter of fact, and it has been obvious to many, however some have decided to ignore it until now as the theory has exploded with the Trump campaign.

That's why I was so disgusted with the kissing up at Lady Reagan's funeral.

That act of defiance on Obama's part triggered the Tea Bagger uprising and Trumpism.

Just like in the 1930's when people around the world were suffering, they needed to turn to someone. Some turn to the facists, like Hitler/Trump and some turn to Democratic Socialism like FDR/Sanders.

The Establishment candidates of Bush and Clinton has seen their day pass. The choice is Sander or Trump.
