Obama has once again let the republicans dictate his decisions. If this guy gets confirmed, Citizens United is safe for the foreseeable future.

If Hatch likes the man, it can't be good. Hatch has equated LGBT to Nazis. if he'd said that about another minority group Obama would not seek to please such a man. It's the Reagan Democrats. We saw it this weekend with Hillary spinning her belief that Ron and Nancy were heroes of the AIDS era. Now it's 'let's please Orrin, he called the gays Nazis and praise the war on terror!!!

So if you have some actual reason that I should dig this man all the Repubicans dig, the same Republicans who have smeared my community my entire life, share them with me and I will consider them. As it stands, I have no reason to put any effort into his success.

to suggest that I am. The HRC has long had a tainted reputation with many LGBT because of their betrayal of the transgender community and because of the noticeably racist and sexist manner in which the place is run.

From The Advocate:

5 Most Disappointing Things We Learned About HRC's 'White Men's Club'

A new internal diversity report reveals the Human Rights Campaign has a sexist work environment where only 'gay, white, male' employees advance into leadership positions.

“As a woman, I feel excluded every day,” says an employee of the Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest LGBT civil rights advocacy group and political lobbying organization, in an internal diversity report released Wednesday.

The report was compiled by The Pipeline Project, and commissioned by HRC through focus groups and surveys with employees of the company. The report revealed that the organizational structure of HRC perpetuates sexism, while leaders have failed to establish a “real push for diversity,” which has created a “homogenous” leadership culture that is “gay, white, male.”

The transgender community is even more pointed:
"Why The Transgender Community Hates HRC"
Why does the transgender community hate HRC? It’s a question I get frequently asked in GLBT settings. Considering the recent GLBT family feud erupting over ENDA, it's an appropriate one to ask as well.

Before I get started trying to shed light on it, I need to point out in the name of journalistic integrity that I was the Lobby Chair for the National Transgender Advocacy Coalition (NTAC) from 1999-2002.

The roots of the animosity start after Stonewall. In an effort to appear more 'mainstream' to the straight community....."

I have to assume you don't know any of this, just as Hillary did not know that Ron and Nancy were the uncontested villains of the AIDS era. When you try to speak authoritatively on things you don't really understand, you wind up looking like Hillary praising Ron and Nancy.

And I note that you did not come up with any actual reason I should support him just 'You are gay and that gay group supports him'. That's so gross.

I get it, everything is ideological and must meet the purity test. It's no wonder, there are those who talk, talk, talk about change and then there are the rest of us who work everyday to create it.

Enjoy your time in exile, where nothing ever pleases you because you will never get anything done. For the record, I am LGBT and it's a fact that if it weren't for the HRC we would not be where we are today. They also endorsed Sonia Sotomayor who sided with the majority of the court on equality.

Facts, they're funny things.

This morning on DU, the most popular reason for rejecting him en toto seems to be Hatch's tactical endorsement from some weeks back, standing shoulder to shoulder in agreement with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell statement from an hour ago to refuse any consideration of Garland. Very little discussion at all in regards to his decisions as a jurist or his stance in regards to immigration, the environment, labor, etc.

I'm guessing when Pres Obama asked the Republicans in the Senate to give him a fair hearing rather than an outright rejection for its own sake, he may have been speaking to recalcitrant Democrats too short sighted to see beyond one endorsement as well.
