The bizarre thing, for me, was that he was 72 years old. How could the son of Frank Sinatra possibly be that old?

gobsmacked by things connected to age.

I, of course, make my two grown sons (33 and 29) totally crazy when I tell them that it was just yesterday they were babies. Or toddlers.

My very best friend is a man I met in 1972, and we cannot believe we've been friends for so long.

And on and on.

How could Frank Sinatra Jr possibly be 72 years old? Let alone dead?

PARIS, Dec. 28— Andre-Francois Raffray thought he had a great deal 30 years ago: He would pay a 90-year-old woman 2,500 francs (about $500) a month until she died, then move into her grand apartment in a town Vincent van Gogh once roamed.

But this Christmas, Mr. Raffray died at age 77, having laid out the equivalent of more than $184,000 for an apartment he never got to live in.

On the same day, Jeanne Calment, now listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's oldest person at 120, dined on foie gras, duck thighs, cheese and chocolate cake at her nursing home near the sought-after apartment in Arles, northwest of Marseilles in the south of France.

She need not worry about losing income. Although the amount Mr. Raffray already paid is more than twice the apartment's current market value, his widow is obligated to keep sending that monthly check. If Mrs. Calment outlives her, too, then the Raffray children and grandchildren will have to pay.

Mine are both gone - dad would be 104 and mum would be 100 this year. Dad died at 70 and mom at 77.
My oldest sibling just turned 70. That is our reality check.

I reached the age my grandmother was when I was born. My GRANDMOTHER. I'm my Grandmother's age! And I'm just a kid and my grandmother is...a grandmother. I get mad at my parents for acting old. They're in their mid-80s. Of course, they have it worse. Their baby daughter is post-menopausal.

Honestly.

I realize the life of someone this age who has chronic health issues is very different from mine, but I still don't think this is old.

about it so this sort of 'oh 72 is too young' stuff always strikes me as privilege talk out of the sort of people who favored Reagan's silence and think Ron and Nancy cured AIDS. 72. That's old. '

Used to watch Snyder as a kid. Loved him of all the late night guys.

I, too, was surprised by Frank Jr's age. 2 years older than my mom. Gives me pause, since she's so vital.
