Sen. Ted Cruz — one of the two leading candidates for the Republican nomination — said Friday of another candidate: “Donald Trump may be a rat but I have no desire to copulate with him.”

Cruz was vociferously denying the stories of alleged past sex scandals, calling them a “tabloid smear” and the fruit of onetime Trump operative Roger Stone‘s dirty tricks.

and it came out in one of the worst possible ways.

1. He wanted to call Trump and his campaign out as engaging in "rat-fucking", which is slang for playing Nixonian dirty tricks, but didn't want to be explicit (hence the usage of copulation).
2. He wanted to insult Trump (hence the rat comment).
3. He wanted to dissociate himself from all the sexual allegations... (hence the saying he doesn't want to copulate)
